Sarah Ortego is the right person for school board

When selecting school board members, it should be about proven leadership, not partisanship. WJCC Schools needs a leader who has the respect of staff and the community; who has led the division through many challenges; and who advocates for all students and families. Sarah Ortego is principled, passionate, pragmatic, professional and personable and is the right choice again!
School board leadership at its best is about character, leadership ability and skills, and putting students first in all decisions. I worked directly for Sarah Ortego and witnessed first-hand her passion for public education. She is smart and well informed, fosters transparency, takes responsibility for her decisions, and sets clear expectations. As a mother of students attending WJCC Schools, she is personally vested in the division’s success.
Sarah Ortego always (1) asks the hard questions to keep the school division accountable; (2) requests the rationale behind decisions; (3) respects differing opinions without compromising her own deeply held beliefs; (4) listens and responds with wisdom and grace; and (5) demands forward momentum and positive results.
Evidence of her accomplishments abound. Three of the four years in her first term, she served in board leadership roles. Under her leadership, the construction of two innovative, state-of-the-art early childhood centers is underway; a results-driven strategic plan placing student achievement at the center was launched October 2024; and student outcomes have advanced significantly.
WJCC needs her relentless focus on student achievement, her steady hand to meet the challenges of inadequate school funding and her profound knowledge of process and policies. Her commitment to excellence is unparalleled.
We should look to the future with optimism knowing Sarah Ortego will lead with strength and unquestionable character. Undoubtedly, her leadership transcends partisanship, and she is the right choice at the right time for all the right reasons.
