Our community needs Ortego on school board

Williamsburg-James City County Schools needs steady, thoughtful leadership now more than ever. That is why I support Sarah Ortego’s reelection to the school board.
I had the honor of serving on the WJCC School Board for eight years, and during that time my service overlapped with Sarah’s. I saw firsthand how she approaches her role. She takes the time to listen carefully, study the issues in depth and weigh different perspectives before making decisions. The work of the school board is rarely simple. It requires balancing academic priorities, fiscal realities, staffing needs and community expectations. Sarah has shown she can navigate those complexities with fairness and clarity.
What sets Sarah apart is her ability to lead with both confidence and humility. She asks the right questions, pushes for accountability and builds trust by making sure every voice is heard. When choices are difficult, she does not shy away from them. Instead, she approaches them with calm judgment and a focus on what will best serve students.
At a time when schools face complex challenges — from academic recovery to supporting teachers and preparing students for the future — Sarah provides the stability and steady hand our community needs. She leads with integrity, respect and a deep commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Sarah’s experience, judgment and dedication make her exactly the kind of leader our students, families and community deserve.
